As part of our partnership with Inspiring Rare Birds, the Scalare Team were thrilled to be part of the InvestHer program which culminated in a special event at Seed Spaces on 24 November.
Scalare Partner Jenny Li and Community Manager Sarah Macaulay were invited to share insights from an investor and business support perspective with the impressive cohort of female founders from the InvestHer program.
Jenny joined the panel of investment experts hosted by Rare Birds Founder & CEO Jo Burston, including Jess Walker from AirTree, Jen Kiang from Fundsquire and Adrian Bunter from Sydney Angels, for a thoughtful discussion around key topics facing female founders. The panel shared a wealth of insights from an investment perspective, with some excellent tips on accessing the support and funding options available to help female founders succeed.
Jo Burston asked great questions, generating a wide range of hot topics for discussion.
tips from the panel
It's perfectly natural not to be able to solve all your business challenges alone. Get comfortable asking for help, and be really clear with your ask!
Look for investors who share your vision and values and are a good cultural fit, as they will be better able to help your business fulfil its objectives in the short, medium and long term
Statistics tell us that women face greater challenges around funding support. Don't let that stop you! Be open to exploring alternative funding options, and become familiar with grant funding
Explore other powerful networks such as the growing angel investor community
Understand your funding road-map and cash runway and be well prepared for future funding needs and start building relationships with investors early
It was inspiring to hear how the investment community are consciously building gender-balanced teams, taking action to close the gap in funding, and working hard to uncover unconscious bias. It is always rewarding to connect with founders and investors who support diversity and inclusion, one of the core values of Scalare Partners.
One of the many highlights of the evening was the announcement of the scholarship prize sponsored by Scalare. Congratulations to Danielle Morton, Founder of Zondii, who will continue her journey alongside a Rare Birds mentor.
Thank you, Inspiring Rare Birds and City of Sydney for the opportunity to support the female entrepreneurs in the 2022 InvestHer Program.
Jenny Li and Sarah Macaulay were thrilled to be able to share their knowledge and enjoyed sharing stories with female founders and fellow investors.
