We are pleased to announce that Scalare Partners has acquired the Australian Technologies Competition (ATC), Australia’s national competition designed to identify and showcase the most innovative and promising Australian technology companies.
Scalare Partners is committed to investing in and supporting the growth of innovative companies with great potential.
“The acquisition of the ATC is a testament to Scalare’s commitment to the Australian technology sector, which has shown remarkable resilience and innovation in recent years,” says Carolyn Breeze, Scalare Partners CEO.
Scalare acquired the competition from Impact Tech Ventures (ITV). “Scalare is a great home for the competition as it continues to evolve and grow. I’m really looking forward to this year’s program and its continuing role in helping Australian innovators realise their global potential,” says Pat Mooney, founder and Executive Chair of ITV.
The ATC has a strong reputation for identifying and promoting the most promising startup and scaleup technology companies in Australia, with an alumni pool of 350 past winners including telehealth platform Coviu, global agri-business Agri-Digital and ASX-listed cleantech company Calix.
This year, the growth and awards program will run from 1 May to the end of September.
The judging and mentoring process will be completely independent of the Scalare team which means that Scalare's portfolio companies can participate in the competition should they choose to do so.
As such, founding members of Scalare, who have served as judges in the ATC for the past 5 and 10 years respectively will step down from the judging panel. However, their extensive experience has made them well-versed in the ATC judging, growth and awards process, making Scalare Partners the ideal home for the ATC.
This year’s award categories include a broad range of homegrown technology spanning medtech/pharma, regtech/fintech, agritech, clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, advanced manufacturing, cyber and for the first time - an eco-system supporter of the year.
The judges are selected based on their sector experience and include John O’Brien, Partner for Energy, Climate & Sustainability at Deloitte, Melina Georgousakis, medical research scientist and social entrepreneur and a dozen more industry experts.
The ATC has been sponsored every year by the Commonwealth Government and for the last four years by the Victorian Government, via the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJPR) and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) as host for the cleantech section of the national final and awards. Other sponsors in 2022 and leading into 2023 include Investment NSW, industry growth centres, The National Stock Exchange and the Mining Leaders Group.
To be eligible, a company must be an Australian-based SME with less than 100 employees and hold commercial rights or ownership of the intellectual property for a key technology in an eligible industry sector. Additionally, entrants must have established traction and an MVP in Australia.
Carolyn says, “Our goal is to continue to support and develop the ATC as a platform that connects innovative companies with investors and industry experts, providing them with the knowledge and connections they need to succeed on their entrepreneurial journeys.
"We believe the Australian technology sector has enormous potential, and we are excited to be a part of its continued growth and success.”
We look forward to working with the existing and new program partners and stakeholders to build a brighter future for Australian technology companies.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to sharing more updates with you soon.
Sincerely,
The Scalare Partners team
